Before the Dark Times, before the Empire

Earlier, I caught the end of Return on the King on cable. Seeing it again, I realize how interesting and important the battle between good and evil has always been to me. I was raised on Star Wars and I believe that the whole Light Side/Dark Side thing really grafted itself into my subconscious. I can't let go of the idea that good must win out. And it drives me crazy on a daily basis when I witness the opposite, whether it's in my own life or on the news. It seems to be that more and more people are just letting the Dark Side win. Supposed good guys are just bending over and letting our world fall apart. Seeing this happen so often now, I wind up feeling more and more that we'll never win and that I'll never see that happy ending. But then I don't even know that there is a "we" anymore. Everywhere I look I see people who for whatever reason are just resigned to it. This is the time when we should be fighting and it just seems like everyone is sleeping through it. And the worst part is, I'm feeling a little drowsy myself.
